== Biography and career == Artel Kayaru was born and raised in Chicago, Illinois. After high school, he completed a double major in theater and philosophy from Columbia College. After that, he has performed in improvisational tropues, and also won an NAACP ACT-SO award for Poetry. In June 2010, Kayaru graduated Summa Cum Laude from UCLA School of Theater, Film & Television as the first Black valedictorian. Kayaru's first acting role was an uncredited appearance on the film ''Light It Up'' (with [[Sara Gilbert]]). After that, he has appeared in films like ''Save the Last Dance'', ''Dahmer'', ''Heavens Fall'' (with [[Bill Smitrovich]]), and ''The Soloist'' (with [[Stephen Root]]). Kayaru has also written and directed a couple of short films. === Role on ''24'' === Kayaru is one of five actors credited for playing a group of [[Sangalan_villagers|villagers]] from the fictional African country of [[Sangala]] during [[Season 7]]. Kayaru's scenes are all part of a video footage that is shown to President [[Allison Taylor]] to show the effects of a biological weapon on humans.
