Jack and Teri are briefly reunited at the hospital, where Jack warns the doctors not to let anyone near Janet York. Ira Gaines contacts Jack and tells him that he has kidnapped Kim and Jack must follow his orders to save his daughter. David Palmer discovers that his entire family has been keeping secrets from him. Jamey helps identify the body from the car.
Jack locates the man who forged the audio evidence, but his efforts to break him down are sabotaged by Sherry Palmer. Kim returns to the Matheson home, where she encounters Gary. Palmer searches for an ally who will help him get a message out to CTU. Tony and Michelle take Chappelle out of action when he hinders their efforts to help Jack. Kim calls Jack, who helps her kill Gary.
After Michael Amador's death, Stephen Saunders threatens to release more vials if President Palmer doesn't comply with his demands, and one of his requests tests CTU on how far they are willing to go to stop the virus from being released. Jack and Chase try to find a lead to get info on Saunders. Michelle proposes a solution to the suffering at the hotel.
The Chinese launch their own kidnapping to find out who led the attack on their Consulate. Mandy uses Tony as leverage to try to force Michelle to aid in her escape. President Charles Logan and CTU realize that they are running out of time to find and stop the missile before it reaches its unknown target.
While Jack and Christopher Henderson secure a missile submarine seized by Bierko, Martha and Aaron form an alliance with Mike Novick. Meanwhile, Logan prepares to leave for Palmer's sendoff, which Jack exploits to his advantage after he settles his other personal vendetta against Henderson.
Josh is rescued and Cheng is taken into custody as a war with Russia is averted. Chloe and Morris discover they are going to be parents. Bill and Karen are both asked to retire. Jack Bauer says a final goodbye to Audrey and then stands outside looking at the ocean...
Kim Bauer arrives at the airport to return home to Los Angeles, but grows worried that she may not be safe. The FBI races to prevent Tony Almeida and Cara Bowden's attack on the DC subway system, while at the White House, Olivia Taylor desperately tries to cover her tracks after the Justice Department begins an investigation into Jonas Hodges' murder.
Jack, Tony, and Chase take a helicopter to Max's yacht to rescue Kate, and Jack takes out all of Max's guards using the helicopter's heavy machine guns.
