Anupam Kher (born March 7, 1955; age 65) is an award-winning Indian actor, director, producer and playback singer who played Wassim Khan in the first season of the Indian version of 24.

Biography and career[edit | edit source]

Anupam Kher was born in Shimla. His father was Pushkarnath Kher, a clerk. Anupam studied at D.A.V. School in Shimla. As he grew up, he developed an interest in acting. As he started acting, Kher sometimes struggled economically, not having enough for food or rent, sometimes sleeping on railway platforms. Eventually, he studied at the National School of Drama and later became chairperson of the school.

Kher has appeared in films such as Bend It Like Beckham, The Mistress of Spices, A Wednesday!, I Did Not Kill Gandhi, You Will Meet a Tall Dark Stranger, Dabangg and Silver Linings Playbook. He has also appeared in TV shows like ER, MI-5, and Sense8.
