Buchanan was Sergeant in the Delta Force under Jack Bauer in Afghanistan. Amy Seelaki was also part of their team. Buchanan was captured by Russian agent Oleg Malenov and tortured for information. After the torture, Malenov beheaded Buchanan and fed him to dogs. In revenge, Jack beheaded Malenov in a similar fashion years later in Alaska.
