Agent Cole was posted outside an office at the retreat in where President Logan was meeting with his White House Chief of Staff, Walt Cummings. Cole's superior, Agent Aaron Pierce, reported to him that Jack Bauer had escaped from Secret Service custody and was on the run. He replaced Cole at his station in order to give Jack a chance to interrogate Cummings, in front of the President, concerning the whereabouts of stolen Sentox nerve gas. The plan was successful, and Cummings revealed the location of the gas.
Shortly before 1pm, Cole escorted Cummings back in when it was discovered that Schaeffer was murdered, and the gas was unaccounted for. At this point, Cummings' cell phone received a call, and Cole took it out to give it to Jack.("Day 5: 12:00pm-1:00pm")
Later, at 4:13am, Agent Cole was working an early morning shift. He was approached by First Lady Martha Logan, who had forgotten his name on account of stress. She handed over the cell phone of Aaron Pierce, and he agreed to return it to him whenever he found Pierce.
