Dayton Ward (born June 7, 1967; age 57) is an American science fiction author who wrote 24: Trial by Fire.

Born in Tampa, Florida, Ward served in the United States Marine Corps for over a decade and worked as a software developer before focusing on writing as a full time career. He is best known for his extensive work in the Star Trek Pocket Books series, beginning with the Strange New Worlds anthology series (1999-2001). Since then, Ward has written dozens of Star Trek novels and short stories, and contributed articles in Star Trek Communicator and Star Trek Magazine. Most of these were co-authored with his writing partner, Kevin Dilmore.

Ward is a longtime fan of Canadian rock band Rush, and many of his stories, including Trial by Fire, are titled after Rush songs.

Ward lives in Kansas City, Missouri with his wife and two daughters.
