The Director of Field Operations was the person in charge of field agents at a particular CTU Domestic Unit. The position was below CTU Director and either equal to or higher than Chief of Staff. The Director of Field Operations had their own office. Under Section 1.12 they had the authority to remove the CTU Director, as Jack Bauer did to Tony Almeida during Day 3 and Curtis Manning with Lynn McGill during Day 5.

Jack Bauer | Day 2, Day 3, Day 4, Day 6 | Alive
After the events of Day 2, Jack Bauer was reinstated to CTU on a regular basis and earned the position as Director of Field Operations. When Erin Driscoll took command of the office, she fired Jack due to his former heroin addiction. He was later reinstated when Ronnie Lobell was killed. He was later the acting Director of Field Operations in Day 6 until Mike Doyle could arrive.

After the death of Ronnie Lobell and presumed death of Jack Bauer, Curtis Manning went from Chief of Staff to the Director of Field Operations. He held the position throughout Day 5 and through the first few hours of Day 6. After President Wayne Palmer put Jack in charge of the investigation on Abu Fayed, Curtis lost the position and he was eventually killed by Jack, after he took Hamri Al-Assad hostage.
