The East Turkistan Independence Movement was a group of advocates of an independent, self-governing Xinjiang, also referred to as East Turkistan. The area was an autonomous region in the People's Republic of China.

Muhammed Abbas, Nurmamet Tuman and Kasim Turkel were all members of the East Turkistan Independence Movement. Muhammed Abbas and Nurmamet Tuman both died but Kasim Turkel (one of the primary members) was detained by FBI or CTU and is still alive today.
