Biography and career[]
F.J. Rio was born as Felipe Riojas. He was raised in Lansing, Michigan. Rio is the brother of actor Juan A. Riojas.
A working television actor since 1994, Rio is perhaps best known for his recurring role as shady investor Cruz Pezuela in the final two seasons of The Shield, where his character entered into an uneasy alliance with Benito Martinez's David Aceveda. Rio also appeared in multiple roles in the Star Trek franchise, acting opposite John Billingsley, James Cromwell, Andreas Katsulas, Jeff Kober, Alexander Siddig, Connor Trinneer, and Becky Wahlstrom. The Star Trek: Enterprise episode in which he guest starred was written by Brannon Braga.
Rio's other film and television roles include Beverly Hills, 90210 (with Mark Kiely and Shannen Doherty), NYPD Blue (with Lourdes Benedicto), Grey's Anatomy (with Tom Choi), Prison Break (with Rey Gallegos and Wade Andrew Williams), and Southland (with Michael Cudlitz, Regina King, and Joe Nieves).
