I just thought I'd put this out there to see what the general view of the community was about the new wikia feature Chat. It's available to turn on at certain wikis via Wikia labs. I don't really know if I want in on or not - I mean most of the other testing features on that page are definitely not good, but I dunno if this feature would allow for more user interaction on a more informal level than writing on talk pages all the time. What's good is that unlike the other wikia labs features it doesn't replace anything, it's merely an extra thing on the side rail. Anyway, just wondering what anyone's thoughts on the new feature was and if anyone thought it would be good to turn it on at this wiki for a test period type thing or not?--Acer4666 17:39, July 6, 2011 (UTC)

Well, what are the options to disable it and/or remove it afterwards? I mean, if it's something we can optionally take out later, I would be willing to give it a try and see how it works. If we think it hinders or detracts from the Wiki, then we can choose to remove it. Thief12 20:51, July 6, 2011 (UTC)
Yes, with Wikia labs it can be turned on or off whenever we like. It may later become mandatory for all wikis, but by then we'd have no choice anyway--Acer4666 21:33, July 6, 2011 (UTC)
Let's do the thing. Blue Rook  talk  contribs 05:38, July 7, 2011 (UTC)
Well, I've turned it on for now. If anyone has any problems, or thinks it's a bad idea, we can discuss it right here, as well as any policy/new rules that may need to be established because of its presence. I guess it goes without saying that our old rules still apply about any discussions leading to major changes needing to be done on talk pages or the forum, and that talking with editors over chat can't replace discussions out in the open. That aside, I'm looking forward to having more informal talks with other editors!--Acer4666 15:41, July 7, 2011 (UTC)

Sounds perfect. I happen to be in there now, and will probably just go "afk" in there instead of simply leaving. It will be a neat experience chatting with folks live. But yea Acer you're right, if some editors reach a consensus in there about something, it might be best to post a summary of the discussion somewhere in the project proper and keep an archive of the convo in case someone wants to read it later on. Basic record-keeping. Blue Rook  talk  contribs 20:08, July 7, 2011 (UTC)
