Forum: The Situation Room > Mentioned characters

This has been bugging me for a while, but mentioned characters really shouldn't be grouped with Day X characters. As it is, we should be including David Palmer in Seasons 6, 7, and 8 and Teri Bauer in every single season! Do I have...permission to start deleting those categories where I find them? --Pyramidhead 05:06, September 12, 2010 (UTC)

But it helps to identify which seasons minor characters were mentioned in. Those examples you give are different because Palmer and Teri appear in other seasons, whereas mentioned characters who are exclusively mentioned and never appear get the season category. --SignorSimon (talk/contribs/email) 13:50, September 12, 2010 (UTC)
It's just really inconsistent. If Joe Blow counts as a Day 2 character for getting his name heard once on the news, then so should Teri, who's frequently discussed at length and plays a major role in Jack's development throughout all seasons. I understand what you're saying, but really, the only way most people would get to a mentioned character's page is by following the link from where they were mentioned in the first place - there's not much of a danger of someone not being able to tell why they're on the wiki. Also, there's the sidebar, the citation, and (sometimes annoyingly) the header to explain where they were first introduced. --Pyramidhead 18:21, September 12, 2010 (UTC)
I think you're confusing "characters who have been mentioned after they died" with the characters who qualify for the Mentioned category. These are two mutually-exclusive groups. It's true that I'm probably part of the problem here, though, since in the past I have removed Day # categories from Mentioned characters, but I also have added it, too, so it's inconsistent on my part. I don't see the harm in putting a Day # category with a Mentioned character overall since it isn't that much of a stretch. However I'm not going to take a firm stand on either position since it's relatively insignificant. Consistency is the most important thing here, so I agree with Pyramidhead at least on that point. How about this: there are over 200 mentioned characters, is that enough to warrant having "Day 1 mentioned characters," etc.? Then we could include Teri, Palmer, etc. (which I always think is interesting; I think we should put when they were last mentioned in the sidebar even if they are characters who have appeared earlier than that). --SignorSimon (talk/contribs/email) 09:30, September 13, 2010 (UTC)
That might be worth considering. However, whatever we decide, I definitely think "Mentioned characters" should be mutually exclusive with regard to the other "X characters" categories - either they were in at least one season/book/etc., or they were in none, and only mentioned. --Pyramidhead 19:47, October 12, 2010 (UTC)
