"Friends of Palmer", or FOP, was a slang term popularized after Senator David Palmer won the Presidential election. In government circles, numerous individuals started seeking favors or perks due to their personal relationship with the future President.

After Elizabeth Nash – daughter of Palmer's longtime friend Burton Nash – declined to testify before the House Special Subcommittee due to her "fragile state," Representative Roy Schneider derisively intoned "FOP," believing that she had used her father's influence to avoid scrutiny.
