Graham James McTavish (born January 4, 1961; age 63) is a Scottish actor who played Russian Foreign Minister Mikhail Novakovich in Season 8 of 24.
Biography and career[]
Born in Glasgow, McTavish is a character actor who has appeared in dozens of British television shows and films. He started his career in 1986, appearing in the mini-series Return to Treasure Island.
McTavish has appeared in many TV shows including Highlander (1996, with Peter Wingfield), Casualty (1998), Taggart (1998), Red Dwarf (1999), and Doctors (2001, with Akbar Kurtha). Since moving to Hollywood, he has guest starred in shows including Rome (2005), Numb3rs (2007, with Peter MacNicol and Navi Rawat), NCIS (2007, with Steven Culp, Roshawn Franklin, Jordan Marder, Pauley Perrette, and Walter Wong), Prison Break (2008, with Tom Choi, Jude Ciccolella, Michael Bryan French, Lin Oeding, Michael O'Neill, Raphael Sbarge, Kevin Sizemore, Kelvin Han Yee, and Ron Yuan), and Ghost Whisperer (2009).
In 2008, McTavish appeared in one episode of ABC's Lost as a drill sergeant, in command of Henry Ian Cusick and Darren Keefe's characters. The episode also featured Anthony Azizi and Alan Dale.
In film, McTavish has appeared in supporting parts, often as a villain, in King Arthur (2004, directed by Antoine Fuqua), Rambo (2008, with Rey Gallegos and Paul Schulze), Penance (2009, with Tony Todd), Middle Men (2009, with Rade Serbedzija), Secretariat (2010, with James Cromwell and Nestor Serrano), and Colombiana (2011, with Max Martini).
Since 2012, McTavish is best known for his role as Dwalin, one of the Company of Dwarves, in Peter Jackson's three-part adaptation of J.R.R. Tolkien's The Hobbit, which also featured Stephen Fry and Greg Ellis. From 2014 to 2016, he starred as Dougal McKenzie in Starz's Outlander, also featuring Kola Krauze and Leo Woodruff. Beginning in season 2 of Preacher, he donned the wide-brimmed hat and duster coat of the taciturn, supernatural cowboy known as the Saint of Killers.
McTavish is also a prolific voice-over actor in video games and animation, appearing in numerous games in the Call of Duty series (with Glenn Morshower, Michael Cudlitz, Gene Farber, Endre Hules, Jordan Marder, Fred Toma, and Dragon Age: Origins (with Greg Ellis, Matt Yang King, and Keith Szarabajka), among others.
