James has over fifty acting roles, and has also participated in several productions' art departments as a carpenter/gang boss. His father, Michael Parks, also starred in a TV show called Twin Peaks, which starred Ray Wise, and Chris Mulkey and a movie spin-off featuring Kiefer Sutherland. James has also appeared in shows like NCIS (with Pauley Perrette), and True Blood (with Kevin Alejandro).
Both James and his father Michael have portrayed as law enforcement father and son in several of Robert Rodriguez and Quentin Tarantino co-productions like Kill Bill (with Michael Madsen), Machete, and Death Proof (with Vanessa Ferlito).
