Jeffrey Mariotte (born September 7, 1955; age 65) is an American author, writer, and editor. He was the editor-in-chief of IDW Publishing when the first 24 graphic novel, One Shot, was published. Mariotte served as an editor for that issue, while subsequent IDW graphic novels were edited by others like Chris Ryall and Kris Oprisko.

Mariotte has written novels and comic books about several licensed properties, including Buffy the Vampire Slayer, CSI and Star Trek, as well as his own original work.

Biography and career[]

Jeffrey Mariotte was born in Park Forest, Illinois. His father worked for the United States Department of Defense, which prompted his family to move to Paris, France for work reasons. Mariotte graduated from San Jose University with a degree in Radio/TV/Film. He worked as the manager of Hunter's Books in La Jolla, California. In 1993, Mariotte and Terry Gilman co-founded specialty bookstore Mysterious Galaxy in San Diego.

Mariotte has worked as Vice-President of Marketing at WildStorm Productions/Image Comics and Senior Editor at DC Comics. In 1999, he became the first Editor-in-Chief at IDW Publishing. Mariotte has also worked at various publishing companies, as an editor on staff and freelance. He has edited numerous types of books, from art books to comics and graphic novels.

Among his work, Mariotte has written the novel River Runs Red, and series like Witch Season and Desperadoes. He has also written novels and comics for properties like Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Angel, CSI, The Shield, 30 Days of Night, and Star Trek, among many others. Mariotte's work has earned him the Inkpot Award from Comic-Con International, as well as three Scribe Awards from the International Association of Media Tie-In Writers.
