Biography and career Edit
Boyega was born in Peckham, South London, and began acting in school plays before training at the Peckham Theatre and the Identity Drama School. In 2011, he starred as Moses in Joe Cornish's science-fiction cult hit Attack The Block, winning numerous accolades including a Black Reel Award, British Independent Film Award, and a New York Film Academy Award.
Boyega's subsequent roles include appearances in Junkhearts (with Nabil Elouahabi), Law and Order: UK (with Colin Salmon), Half of a Yellow Sun (with Hakeem Kae-Kazim), and the BBC telefilm The Whale (with Charles Furness). He was originally cast as the lead in the HBO pilot Da Brick, based on Mike Tyson's life, but it was not picked up.
In April 2014, Boyega was cast in the lead role in J.J. Abrams' Star Wars sequel trilogy. Boyega plays Finn, a storm trooper who experiences a crisis of conscience and joins the Resistance movement fighting against the First Order. Background actors Rimmel Daniel and Jorge Leon Martinez also appeared in the first film, Star Wars Episode VII: The Force Awakens (2015). Boyega reprised the role in The Last Jedi (2017) and The Rise of Skywalker (2019).
