Jürgen Prochnow (born June 10, 1941; age 79) played Sergei Bazhaev during Season 8 of 24. For his appearances on 24, he was listed in the credits as Juergen Prochnow.

Biography and career[edit | edit source]

Jürgen Prochnow was born in Berlin but grew up in Düsseldorf, Germany. He studied acting at the Folkwang Hochschule in Essen. Prochnow began his career in the 1970s in German television, but became widely known for his portrayal of submarine captain Henrich Lehmann-Willenbrock in Das Boot. He is also known for his performance in Dune.

Prochnow is one of many 24 actors to appear in the film Air Force One in 1997, where he played General Ivan Radek. The others were Glenn Morshower, Xander Berkeley, Timothy Carhart, Wendy Crewson, Bill Smitrovich, Spencer Garrett, Tom Everett, Don McManus, and David Gianopoulos.

Other films in which Prochnow has starred are The Fall (with Kathleen Gati), Primeval (with Gideon Emery), House of the Dead (with Enuka Okuma), and Wing Commander (with Freddie Prinze Jr.).

Role on 24[edit | edit source]

Prochnow played the role of Russian mobster Sergei Bazhaev during Season 8 of 24. He was one of the main antagonists during the first half of the season, appearing in seven episodes. Prochnow was credited as a guest star, and his name was listed in the credits as Juergen Prochnow. Prochnow's stunt double for the role was Justin Sundquist.
