Kate Rooney Mara (born February 27, 1983; age 41) played Shari Rothenberg during Season 5 of 24.

Biography[]

Kate Mara was born in Bedford, New York. Her father was a football scout and the vice president of player evaluation for the New York Giants; her paternal grandfather Wellington was a co-owner of the Giants, and her maternal great-grandfather Art founded the Pittsburgh Steelers. Kate is the second of four siblings, and her sister Rooney is also an actress. Kate has Irish, German, and Italian ancestry.

Mara began acting at an early age in numerous theatrical performances while attending several youth theater-arts schools. She first appeared on the television drama Law & Order in 1997 (with Benjamin Bratt), and began her professional career at age fourteen in the film Random Hearts (with Dennis Haysbert), directed by Sydney Pollack, in 1999. Mara graduated Fox Lane High School early by a year and continued guest starring on numerous television series.

Some of her TV credits include Everwood (with Leslie Hope and Paul Wesley), Nip/Tuck, Cold Case, Boston Public, CSI: Miami, CSI: Crime Scene Investigation, Jack & Bobby, Entourage (with Kevin Dillon), and American Horror Story (with Connie Britton and Zachary Quinto). From 2013 to 2014, she had a lead role in Netflix critically acclaimed series House of Cards, which also featured Sandrine Holt.

Mara has also appeared in several feature films, most notably the Sundance Film Festival award-winning films Tadpole alongside Sigourney Weaver and Joe the King, as well as a small supporting role in Academy Award-winning Brokeback Mountain. Other films in which she has appeared are Zoom, We Are Marshall, Urban Legends: Bloody Mary, The Californians, Shooter (with Rade Šerbedžija and Tate Donovan), Transsiberian, Stone of Destiny, The Open Road, Iron Man 2, 127 Hours, Ironclad and Ten Years.

Kate debuted professionally in 2003 theatrically at the Williamstown Theatre Festival in Landscape of the Body with Lili Taylor. She currently lives in both New York and Los Angeles, living bi-coastally, traveling between the two. Mara is also a singer, as well as a skilled jazz/tap/ballet dancer. She has recently signed with the William Morris Agency and is managed by Washington Square Arts & Film.
