Mary Megan Winningham (born May 16, 1959; age 66) played Elaine Al-Zacar in Season 8 of 24.

Biography and career[]

Mary "Mare" Winningham was born in Phoenix, Arizona, but raised in Northridge, California. Her father was the chairman of the Department of Physical Education at California State University, Northridge (CSUN) and her mother was an English teacher and college counselor at Monroe High School. Mare became interested in acting when she was still a child after seeing an interview with actress Kym Karath, who played Gretl in The Sound of Music.

Winningham attended Andasol Ave. Elementary School, and later at Patrick Henry Junior High School. She also participated in CSUN's Teenage Drama Workshop during her summer vacations. During this time, Mare started appearing in theater plays. Eventually, she transferred to Chatsworth High School.

Winningham started her career in 1976, with an uncredited role in the TV film Young Pioneers. However, she became popular in the mid-80's as part of the original "Brat Pack", along with Emilio Estevez, Judd Nelson, and Demi Moore. Actors Kiefer Sutherland and Lou Diamond Phillips have also been linked with the group, which became popular for starring together in many teen films during the 80's.

Other films in which Winningham has appeared are Turner & Hooch (with Scott Paulin), Wyatt Earp (with Michael Madsen and Tom Sizemore), Swing Vote (with Dennis Hopper), Brothers (with Omid Abtahi and Navid Negahban), and Philomena (with Michelle Fairley). Aside of films, Winningham has also appeared in TV shows like ER (with Eriq La Salle), Grey's Anatomy, Torchwood, and The Affair.
