The Metropolitan Police Service (abbreviated MPS and widely known informally as "The Met") was the police force responsible for law enforcement in London, England. The Met was also referred to as "Scotland Yard" after the location of its headquarters.

Organisation

Within the Met's rank structure, the detective chief inspector (DCI) of a division oversaw multiple detective inspectors (DI). ("Day 9: 12:00pm-1:00pm")

Some MPS officers carried Glock 17 handguns as their chief sidearm. ("Day 9: 1:00pm-2:00pm")

History

Three years before Day 9, Ken, a Met detective inspector, began acting as a paid informant for the CIA station in West London, with Agent Kate Morgan acting as his contact. ("Day 9: 12:00pm-1:00pm")

Day 9

Throughout Day 9, officers of the Metropolitan Police provided security and crowd control at protest sites around London, including at the U.S. Embassy and outside President James Heller's state residence. Two motorcycle officers escorted the President's motorcade during his visits to the Foreign and Commonwealth Office and, later, to the Houses of Parliament. ("Day 9: 11:00am-12:00pm", "12:00pm-1:00pm", "1:00pm-2:00pm")

After 12:00pm, Agent Morgan reached out to Ken, her MPS contact, while he was on a case at the scene of a traffic accident. Morgan provided him with the phone number for a stolen cell phone belonging to Chloe O'Brian, and asked him to get her the numbers for the other phones in the same shipment. After threatening to reveal to his superiors that he had been working with the CIA, Kate convinced him to comply. ("Day 9: 12:00pm-1:00pm")

The local police in West Ealing were called after reports of a shootout at Aron Bashir's council estate. Upon learning that Agent Morgan and Erik Ritter were at the scene, Steve Navarro called Ritter and ordered him to leave immediately, warning that the CIA couldn't afford to be caught operating in force on British soil. ("1:00pm-2:00pm")

Around 5:00pm, two Met officers were sent to check an abandoned restaurant recently used as a hideout by Open Cell. Chloe O'Brian, still working there on her own, was alerted by an unknown party and managed to get out before she was caught.

After Simone Al-Harazi was struck by a bus in Charing Cross, a Met officer questioned the bus driver and then spoke to Yasmin, Simone's niece, whom she had been chasing. After Simone's identity was confirmed, several more officers were sent to stand watch over her at St. Edwards Hospital to protect her from her mother, Margot.

Kareem, one of Margot's operatives, was sent to the hospital to find out what Simone had told the authorities about Margot's operation. After he was caught by Jack Bauer, Kareem fled, killing one of the Met officers on the scene before he was gunned down by two others. ("5:00pm-6:00pm")
