Biography and career[]
Michael Cavanaugh was born in New York. He is the oldest of nine children. Cavanaugh joined the Navy after graduating from high school, and was stationed in Hawaii for three years. After finishing his service, he developed an interest in acting. He began his acting career in children's theater, and made his stage debut in the titular role in a production of Winnie the Pooh. He has also appeared in stage versions of One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest, Merchant of Venice.
Cavanaugh turned to television and films in the 70s. He has appeared in numerous films like In Dreams (with Brian Goodman), The Enforcer, The Gauntlet, Iron Eagle, A Passion to Kill (with Salvator Xuereb), Night Hunter (with Ron Yuan), Escape Under Pressure (with Harry Van Gorkum and Adoni Maropis), Collateral Damage (with Raymond Cruz, Harry Lennix, Greg Collins, Don Fischer, Norm Compton and Rick Garcia), and Red Dragon.
Aside of films, Cavanaugh has appeared in countless TV shows like The A-Team, The X-Files, ER (with Eriq La Salle), NYPD Blue (with Tamara Tunie), C-16: FBI (with Zeljko Ivanek, D.B. Sweeney, and Zach Grenier), The Agency (with Will Patton), E-Ring (with Benjamin Bratt and Dennis Hopper), The Unit (with Dennis Haysbert, Max Martini, Michael Irby, Dean Norris, and Shaun Duke), and FlashForward (with Navi Rawat).
Cavanaugh is also an accomplished vocalist, that has sung tenor in such musicals as Oh Calcutta!, Carousel, and 110 in the Shade.
