Jamey Vasquez started working at Microsoft as a security specialist after graduating from UC Riverside, where she met Derek Farrell, who was her direct superior. The two eventually married and had a son, Kyle.
Eventually, Derek had an affair with a "redhead" Microsoft executive who returned to Seattle after two years abroad, and he and Jamey divorced. Jamey went to his bosses in order to get him to pay her child support, but in revenge, Derek revealed that she had helped write open-source intelligence software during her employment, which resulted in her being fired from the company.
