Born in Mumbai, Maharashtra, India and raised and educated in Nigeria and London, Nazneen immigrated to Toronto, Canada with her family at the age of ten. She spent her early youth excelling in her academics and training as a classical ballerina. After almost ten years of dance training, she discovered her true love was performing and turned her energies towards acting. She immediately found success at the prestigious world-renowned Stratford Shakespeare Festival. During her fortunate time at the Festival Nazneen played lead roles in Shakespeare's "Pericles" and "A Midsummer Night's Dream," along with six other productions in her two seasons at the Festival, becoming the first woman of East Indian descent to play a lead role in the Festival in its fifty-year history. Contractor then focused her energies on her degree in Sociology, Psychology and Theatre at the University of Toronto as well as trying to make her mark in the world of film and television. After playing a few guest star and recurring roles on Canadian and American television shows, she landed the lead role of Layla Hourani on The Border, Canada's number one drama. Actors she worked with on The Border include Al Sapienza.
She is married to Carlo Rota, known to 24 fans for playing Morris O'Brian, with whom she appeared in a 2008 production of Othello. An adherent to Zoroastrianism, she is one of approximately 150,000 Parsis remaining in the world.
