Okinawa was an island and prefecture of Japan.
During Day 9, President Wei of the People's Republic of China ordered his country's forces to mobilize for a naval attack on the U.S. base in Okinawa, in response to the sinking of their Shenyang aircraft carrier. Wei called off the strike after Jack Bauer captured and killed the true architect of the incident, Chinese fugitive Cheng Zhi. ("Day 9: 9:00pm-10:00pm", "10:00pm-11:00am")
