Pacific Time (PT), or GMT-8, was the standard time zone of the United States' west coast, which included Los Angeles, California. More specifically, Pacific Time can refer either to Pacific Standard Time (PST) during the fall and winter, or Pacific Daylight Time (PDT) during daylight saving time in the spring and summer.

Background information and notes[]

  • For the first six seasons, all events took place in Pacific Time. Seasons 1 and 2 both began in local time of foreign countries, but transitioned to PT when the action moved to the United States.
  • To keep everything consistent, the events in Washington, D.C. during Day 6 were shown in PST even though the characters themselves referenced EST.
  • Season 2, 4 and 6 reference PST directly. In the episode Day 2: 3:00am-4:00am, a newscaster in the beginning states that the nuclear bomb went off at 10:59 PST. In Day 4: 5:00pm-6:00pm, a news report that Ali watches mentions an event that took place at 8pm EST/5pm PST. In Day 6: 1:00pm-2:00pm, Tom Lennox is reading a CTU memo that states Abu Fayed escaped at 1:45 Pacific Standard Time.
  • In Day 1: 12:00am-1:00am, the time difference between Los Angeles and Kuala Lumpur is shown to be 16 hours. This would indicate that Day 1 is set during Pacific Standard Time, as during PDT the time difference would be 15 hours (Malaysia does not observe daylight saving time).
