President Wei
The President of the People's Republic of China was the nominal head of state of the People's Republic of China, while the Premier is the head of government. However, the presidency has been held simultaneously by the General Secretary of the Communist Party of China, prominent in crucial matters of state and international relations. During Day 9, Wei was the President of China and General Secretary, as well as a member of the Politburo standing committee of the Communist Party. After the accidental sinking of the Shenyang by an American submarine, President James Heller contacted Wei to assure him that the action had not been authorized by the U.S. chain of command, but rather via Cheng Zhi's intrusion into the country's defense grid. President Wei, under pressure from his colleagues in the Politburo, mobilized Chinese air and naval forces for an attack on an American base on Okinawa; however, he agreed to recall the attack after Jack Bauer managed to produce Cheng and prove that he was in fact still alive.
