In the United States, the presidential primary was one of the first steps in the process of electing the next President of the United States. The primary elections provided a method for the major political parties to nominate and unite behind one popularly chosen candidate for the presidency. The primaries took place in the first half of the election year, with votes collected state by state over several months.

"Super Tuesday" was a term for the day on which the most states scheduled their primaries. With more delegates available on this day than any other, it was considered crucial for a nominee to convincingly win a majority of the primaries to secure the nomination. ("Day 1: 12:00am-1:00am")

On Day 1, primaries were held in eleven states: Arizona, California, Iowa, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Missouri, New York, North Dakota and Ohio. Despite a scandal and threats on his life, Democratic Senator David Palmer managed to win all eleven primaries, defeating his opponent Governor Mike Hodges. ("Day 1: 8:00pm-9:00pm")
