I know you think this country failed you, and I don't care what kind of ideology you believe in now. This is no way to fight for it. What you're doing is wrong. This is wrong, and you know it!   • Renee Walker: I don't know what to do.
  • Jack Bauer: I can't tell you what to do. I've been wrestling with this one my whole life. I-I see 15 people held hostage on a bus, and everything else goes out the window. And I will do whatever it takes to save them, and I mean whatever it takes. (wry chuckle). I guess maybe I thought… if I save them… I'd save myself.
  • Renee Walker: Do you regret anything that you did today?
  • Jack Bauer: No. Then again, I don't work for the FBI.
  • Renee Walker: I don't understand.
  • Jack Bauer: You took an oath. You made a promise to uphold the law. When you cross that line, it always starts off with a small step. Before you know it, you're running as fast as you can in the wrong direction just to justify why you started in the first place. These laws were written by much smarter men than me. And in the end, I know that these laws have to be more important than the 15 people on the bus. I know that's right. In my mind, I know that's right. I just don't think my heart could ever have lived with that. I guess the only advice I can give you is… try to make choices that you can live with. ("Day 7: 7:00am-8:00am")

  • Jack Bauer: Sweetheart, we talked about this remember? You're supposed to call me "Grandpa".
  • Teri: You don't look like a grandpa.

  • Jack Bauer: You detonate that vest, your mother dies too.
  • Marcos Al-Zacar: What did you say?
  • Jack Bauer: You heard me. I'm gonna make sure your mother's in Manhattan when that dirty bomb goes off.
  • Marcos Al-Zacar: You don't even know what the target is.
  • Jack Bauer: I'm not talking about her dying during the explosion. I'm gonna personally escort her to the blast site so she's exposed to the radiation.
  • Marcos Al-Zacar: I don't believe you. You wouldn't do that. You're a federal agent.
  • Jack Bauer: Truth is, I'm not, really. Well, not any more. I'm more of a specialist that they brought in for today. If you knew who I was and the things I've done before in my life, you would know that I'm not bluffing. So go ahead; blow yourself up into a million little pieces, first thing I'm gonna do is I'm gonna make your mother come in here and clean it up. Then I'm gonna take her to the blast site. Do you know how long it takes the human body to absorb a lethal dose of cesium-137? Five seconds, followed by twelve days of pain that is so agonizing, morphine can't even touch it. You got a decision to make, make it carefully.
  • Marcos Al-Zacar: You're not gonna hurt my mother.
