Riduan Bashir was the owner and proprietor of Mataran Imports in Van Nuys, California, and a financial supporter of the Indonesian terrorist organization Jemaah Islamiyah.
Biography[]
Bashir used his company, Mataran Imports, as a front to launder money for Jemaah Islamiyah operations in Southeast Asia. In May of 2002, he traveled to Jakarta to meet with Khalid Ismahuddin, a known JI member, under the pretense that they were meeting to arrange a business deal.
Investigating a possible attack by JI against the Pacific Rim Forum, Tony Almeida questioned Bashir about the meeting at his office in Van Nuys. While Bashir denied any knowledge of the group or its activities, Tony remained unconvinced, and later confirmed with Jamey Farrell that Bashir had inside knowledge of one of JI's attacks – he knew that JI's bombing of a Marriott in Jakarta was conducted with a van, when the media circulated that it was a truck.
Soon after the interrogation, Tony tailed Bashir by car to the Little Java Cafe in West Los Angeles. Sneaking in disguised as a bus boy, Tony observed Bashir meeting with two other Indonesians. He took one of the men's teacup back to CTU to identify him from the fingerprints, and discovered that it was Encep Sungkar, JI's third in command. (Chaos Theory)
