The fifth season of 24 follows the 5th day in Jack Bauer's life. The season premiered with 2 episodes in the US on the 15th of January 2006 with 2 more hours being shown on the 16th of January. The rest of the season will air in a regular timeslot of 9 p.m. ET every Monday.

Before Day 5
In a promo available on the Season 4 DVD, Chloe O'Briann meets with Jack Bauer in Chicago 12 months after Season 4. Chloe informs Jack that unknown agents had hacked her computer and discovered that Jack's death certificate was faked.
Jack is chased by these agents and is able to escape. He flees to another unknown location.
Backstory
Season five of "24" will picks up 18 months after Season 4's end, with the presumed-dead Jack Bauer living under the false identity of Frank Flynn with a woman (Connie Britton) and her son (Brady Corbet).
Season 5 Plot
The Season 5 Cast
After Season 4, Jack Bauer will be settling into his new life after having to fake his own death. Bauer returns to the CTU to deal with Season 5's a plot involving Russians and a stockpile of nerve gas. There were rumours that a Main Character would be killed off in the first three episodes. The rumors proved to be true when David Palmer was assassinated in the first five minutes of the first episode, then Michelle Dessler was killed by a car bomb minutes later that also almost killed Tony Almeida.
