  • The idea behind Wayne Palmer's bluff was that Fury wanted to portray Wayne in a different light, as his earlier presidential decisions were perceived as weak.
  • Jack Bauer's allies are referred to as "FOJ's" which stands for "Friends of Jack".
  • It was originally written that Gredenko would still be alive and receiving medical treatment, but it was decided to keep him dead.
  • The shut-down Los Angeles Time building in Chatsworth has almost become their "backlot". Has 400,000 square feet of filming area and is used often.
  • Manny Coto did a lot of work on the act which leads into Fayed's escape. Fury outlined it, Coto wrote the first draft, and then Fury took it over again but didn't have to change much.
  • The action sequence during the makeshift sting operation was shot a week or two after the rest of the episode.
  • The vehicle that Mike Doyle and Bauer were transporting Fayed in was to simply veer off-road into a ditch, but Spicer wanted to fool the audience a bit more and decided to flip it.
  • Originally scripted just for Jack to be wounded as Fury knew hardcore 24 fans would realize it was all a ruse if Jack seemed dead.
  • A Toyota Tundra was mandated to be used in a scene for product placement purposes, which actually worked out well for the storyline as they were secretly tailing Fayed.
  • Spicer had previously directed Adoni Maropis in a movie McHale's Navy, however his scene ended up cut from the film.
  • Scenes between Jamal and Fayed in the back of a truck were filmed on-stage with "poor mans process" used to simulate a moving vehicle.
  • Fury originally named the cell off a real terrorist cell but wasn't allowed to use it.
  • An extremely controversial scene was originally filmed where Wayne Palmer made a much more hardline case to the Ambassador (which was to be another outrageous bluff on his part). It wasn't playing out correctly however, with neither Karen nor Lennox showing shock over Palmer's request. Robert Cochran was concerned how this would be portrayed overseas and that it would send the wrong message to foreign viewers that the President of the United States really acts this way. Peter MacNicol and Jayne Atkinson also shared concerns over the scene. It was thus decided to remove it and also not have it appear as a deleted scene on the DVD.
  • Interrogation of Mohmar Habib was filmed in the LA Times building locker room.
  • Maropis didn't know any Arabic but learned it just for the scene.
  • The conversation played out in Arabic and rather than using subtitles, Nadia was scripted in to provide a full simultaneous translation.
  • Spicer reveals just how many locations are used for a shot. The scene starts in Van Nuys airport Sherman Way tunnel which was closed down for the night. A door was added there which Jack walks through and the other side was the generator room of the LA Times building. After walking through that room it cuts to loading docks underneath the Northridge Mall (a location previously used in Season 5).
  • It was questioned whether this episode contained too many turns but Fury wanted to make every character seem smart.
  • The idea to have Jack crawling under a vehicle and hanging underneath it was from Howard Gordon.
  • Kiefer requested to perform his own stunt by hanging on underneath the moving truck (with a cable attached for safety) at 30 miles per hour. Kiefer wanted to make the scene look dangerous by having Jack's face being directly beneath the rotating driveshaft. The crew wanted to make things safer for him and installed a platform away from the driveshaft, but he insisted on doing it his way.
  • David Fury directed DB Woodside in an episode of "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" where he was beaten up.
  • Sutherland wanted to have a final line when Jack killed Fayed and they came up with four different possibilities. "Say hello to your brother" was used.
  • Kiefer came up with the idea of picking up his empty gun and realizing everything he's went through by looking at the carnage.
  • Adoni Maropis (a diabetic) lost his breath and passed out during Fayed's chain-hanging scene, causing him to be hospitalized. Some set-pieces had to be brought on-stage to finish close-ups of him.
  • They went back and forth debating whether the revelation of Audrey's kidnapper would be Phillip Bauer or Cheng Zhi and ultimately decided on Cheng.
