Special guest star

Special guest star is a casting designation on 24 usually reserved for well-known actors or past main cast members. It sounds similar to, but is very different from, the much rarer "Special guest appearance by" credit. Special guest stars are payed on a higher scale than guest stars, but on a lower scale than special guest appearances.

The special guest stars are listed after the guest cast in season one, but before the guest cast in all other seasons. The credit is used in every season except Season 2 and 24: Live Another Day.
