Stana Katic (born April 26, 1978; age 46) played Collette Stenger during Season 5 of 24. She is best known for her portrayal of Detective Kate Beckett on the ABC series Castle.

Biography and career[]

Stana Katic was born in Hamilton, Ontario, Canada to Serbian parents who emigrated from the Dalmatian coast of Croatia while it was still part of the former Yugoslavia. She has four brothers and one sister. Katic is multilingual, and can speak Russian, Serbian, Italian, among other languages.

After living in Canada, Katic moved with her family to Aurora, Illinois, and spent the following years moving back and forth between Canada and the United States. She attended West Aurora High School, graduating in 1996. After that, Katic studied at the University of Toronto and then at the DePaul University Goodman School of Drama, where she studied acting from 2000 to 2002. Katic also studied acting at the Beverly Hills Playhouse acting school.

Katic started her career appearing in a 1999 short film called Acid Freaks. After that, she appeared in films like Shut-Eye, Pit Fighter (with Timothy V. Murphy), Feast of Love (with Billy Burke), Stiletto (with Tom Sizemore and D.B. Sweeney), Quantum of Solace, The Spirit (with Eric Balfour and Louis Lombardi), The Double (with Tamer Hassan), and CBGB.

However, Katic is best known for her portrayal of Detective Kate Beckett on the ABC series Castle, which ran from 2009 to 2016. She was the lead character of the show, along with Nathan Fillion. In the show, Scott Paulin played her father. Penny Johnson Jerald also had a lead role on the show, while Max Martini, Gerald McRaney, Geoff Pierson, Darby Stanchfield, Brian Goodman, David Chisum, Peter James Smith, Jonathan Adams and Annie Wersching all had recurring roles.

Aside of her role as Beckett, Katic has appeared in TV shows like Fletcher Drive, The Unit (with Dennis Haysbert, Max Martini, Jorge-Luis Pallo, and Michael Irby), CSI: Miami (with Paul Schulze), Heroes (with Zachary Quinto), ER (with Leland Orser), The Closer (with Raymond Cruz and Don McManus), JAG (with Michael Gaston and Jeremy Ray Valdez), The Shield (with Benito Martinez), The Handler (with John Pyper-Ferguson), and Alias (with David Anders).

In 2012, Katic was ranked #80 in Maxim's Hot 100 list.
