Stephen Nicholas Spinella (born October 11, 1956; age 67) played Miles Papazian during Season 5 of 24.

Biography and career[]

Stephen Spinella was born in Naples, Italy. His father was an American naval airplane mechanic. Spinella grew up in Glendale, Arizona. He graduated from the University of Arizona drama department. In 1979, he moved to New York where he worked in restaurants while acting in regional theater and off-Broadway shows. In 1982, he received a Master of Fine Arts from Tisch School of the Arts in New York University.

Spinella made his professional debut in the critically acclaimed film And the Band Played On (with Patrick Bauchau). After that, he appeared in films like Virtuosity (with Christopher Murray and Jordan Marder), The Jackal (with Ravil Isyanov and Daniel Dae Kim), Ravenous (with Robert Carlyle), Bubble Boy (with Ever Carradine), and Milk. Recently, he was featured in a supporting role in the 2012 Steven Spielberg film Lincoln (with John Hawkes and Gregory Itzin).

Spinella has also appeared in TV shows like Grey's Anatomy (with John Prosky), Law & Order: Special Victims Unit (with Tamara Tunie), Numb3rs (with Peter MacNicol, Navi Rawat, and Nick Hermz), The Mentalist, and Made in Jersey (with Megalyn Echikunwoke). He also had guest recurring roles on The Education of Max Bickford (with Katee Sackhoff) and Desperate Housewives (with Doug Savant and Ricardo Antonio Chavira).

Role on 24[]

Spinella played the role of Miles Papazian during Season 5 of 24. Papazian was an employee of the Department of Homeland Security and the right-hand man of Karen Hayes. According to writer and producer David Fury, Eric Balfour was supposed to reprise his role of Milo Pressman as Hayes' assistant, but when he was unable to, they developed the character of Papazian. Spinella appeared on 10 episodes, and was credited as a guest star.
