I'm almost positive this guy is Mayor Nelson. When Palmer takes the podium, he is the only one standing forward by Palmer's right hand side - Palmer turns to him when he says "thank you Mayor Nelson" - also, he is the first person who Palmer shakes hands with after entering the main room in the power plant.--Acer4666 21:18, August 1, 2011 (UTC)

Yes, it's harder to get a clear pic of him when he's on stage but that's mainly why I think it's him - he's standing just to Palmer's right, and Palmer motions to him when he says "thank you mayor nelson" and then the guy starts grinning. This shot on the right is from Palmer's entrance, just cos it's a clearer shot of the guy--Acer4666 08:06, August 2, 2011 (UTC)

But wouldn't it still be an "assumption" to just say you're "ALMOST positive" he's the guy? Just saying that there might be other possibilities. He could be a plant executive or something. Thief12 10:32, August 2, 2011 (UTC)

My "almost" certainty was to invite people to watch it and verify it for themselves. I am as certain as many other idents that wiki 24 has made - Palmer says "thank you mayor nelson" while gesturing at this guy, and no-one else is in the vicinity of the podium (Nelson had just been speaking at the podium). Have you watched the scene to see what I mean? I think it's pretty clear that it's him--Acer4666 10:54, August 2, 2011 (UTC)

this is when Palmer says "thank you mayor nelson" - you can see his eyeline is pointing at the guy. It's quite a tight shot, but from the layout of the stage here you can see it's the only person he could've been looking at. As I say these pics don't quite illustrate it as well as seeing the footage, but it gives an idea--Acer4666 13:17, August 2, 2011 (UTC)

Sooooo, revisiting this discussion...it turns out that the guy pictured right (played by Bruce Reagan) was in fact labelled in behind the scenes documents as "mayor". This guy was standing behind Palmer during the introduction - given we went off Palmer's eyeline, it's a bit ambiguous on who he was referring to. Anyone have an opinion on whether we go with the showmakers' intent or the best guess we had from purely the show footage?--Acer4666 (Talk) 17:30, 14 June 2022 (UTC)

I'm wondering if the behind-the-scenes files shed any light on the ident of the actor or describe the role of "Possibly Nelson". Maybe he's supposed to be a union leader or something? --William (talk) 02:27, 15 June 2022 (UTC)

So the mayor was listed as a "Day Player", indicating he probably had lines - my guess is that they filmed him introducing Palmer but didn't use it in the final episode (in fact, it sounds like they used another actor to provide the off-screen introduction voice - there's no way that's the voice of an old white guy :D )

The possibly Nelson dude isn't in Day Players; if he's anywhere, it'll probably be in the background extras bit (which I haven't seen yet). The black guy was in the background extras binder, but without any info, just the actor's name: Allen Guidry. This is him in 7th heaven, as there weren't any shots of him online elsewhere--Acer4666 (Talk) 02:54, 25 June 2022 (UTC)

Thanks for taking the trouble to find that 7th heaven episode and look for him. So I guess we can describe him as as a Palmer campaign supporter like the rest of the crowd in that episode and add Bruce Reagan's info to the Nelson page? --William (talk) 15:17, 25 June 2022 (UTC)
