The Unity Conference was a group discussion called by Pope John Paul II in an attempt to unify different religious beliefs. The conference was held in Los Angeles at the Four Seasons Hotel. During his time in L.A., the Pope stayed at St. Monica's Cathedral under the supervision of Allen James Mulrooney.

The conference became corrupted when it was used as an excuse for terrorism by the religious fundamentalists Michael Shalhoub, Mark Gelson, and Marwan al-Hassan. Their plan, developed by Abdul Rahman Yasin, was to assassinate the Pope. In doing so, they hoped to put in a more fundamentalist Pope who would repeal Vatican II.

The plan was stopped by CIA Agent Jack Bauer, LAPD Detective Harry Driscoll, and the then-fledgling organization Counter Terrorist Unit.(Trinity)
